Polk County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller Stacy Butterfield recently earned two top honors in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), the national authority on best practices in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
At the Polk County Board of County Commissioners meeting Tuesday, former Polk County Commissioner Todd Dantzler presented the awards.
“Year after year, Clerk Butterfield stands by her dedication to transparency and accountability as the Polk County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller,” Dantzler said. “It’s an honor to present the GFOA awards to Clerk Butterfield and her team, who are all committed to providing residents valuable insights on how Polk County’s resources are used.”
As the county comptroller, the Clerk produces the county’s audited financial statements, as required by statute. These reports include information on all five constitutional offices and the board of county commissioners.
For the 39th consecutive year, the Clerk earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its preparation of this report, known as the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
In addition, the Clerk also produces the Popular Annual Financial Report, which is a condensed summary of the more detailed comprehensive report. For the 18th consecutive year, the Clerk earned the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Reporting. The Clerk’s office produces this report to provide residents with a concise summary of how their county resources are used.
These awards are the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting. Both are prestigious national awards that recognize conformance with the highest standards for preparation of financial reports.
“It is an achievement to earn these awards, and it is a testament to the quality of work produced by the Clerk’s office, the Board’s budget team and our external auditors from CliftonLarsonAllen,” Clerk Butterfield said. “We remain committed to performing at the highest level of professionalism in our field.”
